Casten Statement on Meritless Impeachment Inquiry
Washington D.C. (December 13, 2023) - U.S. Congressman Sean Casten released the following statement on his vote against the House Republican’s meritless efforts to pursue an impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden:
“Tonight, I voted against opening an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
“Over the past ten months, House Republicans have frivolously investigated President Biden only to find no evidence of an impeachable offense or criminal wrongdoing.
“Throughout this process, we have seen witnesses invited by House Republicans testify to the House Oversight Committee that they have no evidence of wrongdoing and prominent members of the Republican Party question the legitimacy of the impeachment efforts. Tonight’s vote was solely to appease the far-right wing of the House Republican Conference, not to uphold the United States Constitution.
“Instead of continuing this sham investigation, we should focus on passing a full appropriations package to keep our government funded and functioning for the American people.”
